In 2023, Kansas City allocated $11 million from its Housing Trust Fund to support 12 projects aimed at creating and preserving affordable housing for low-income residents. These projects, which range from affordable apartments to transitional housing for the homeless, are expected to generate over 300 affordable rental units. The Housing Trust Fund, established in 2018 but funded in 2021 with $12.5 million in COVID relief, received a significant boost in 2022 when voters approved a $50 million bond measure. This year, an additional $9 million in trust fund spending is set to be approved. The Trust Fund’s initiatives focus on maintaining affordability for at least 30 years, with funds prioritized for low and extremely low-income households, transitional housing, and homeownership support. Key projects include Oak Park Townhomes and Amethyst Place, which provide housing and support services for veterans, families, and homeless women and children.
