About Us

The Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation, MCRC, is a 501(c)3 formed in 1994 to serve as the revitalization catalyst within the Mt. Carmel neighborhood located in the heart of Kansas City Kansas.

MCRC soon developed a master plan around a four-square block area, bound by 11th Street on the East, 13th Street on the West, Parallel Parkway on the North, and Garfield Avenue on the South. Revitalization will include 48 new single-family homes targeted to low, moderate, and middle-income buyers, with 16 homes being constructed and sold to date. In addition, MCRC constructed the Breidenthal Community Center, a 61-unit Senior Housing Facility, and 3 transitional housing duplexes assisting the homeless.

In addition to housing, MCRC is uniquely designed to provide holistic services to the community. Services include a food pantry, single family homeownership program, a transitional housing program, strengths-based case management, crisis intervention, budget counseling, information and referrals, motivation and education, client advocacy, and senior citizen outreach. MCRC also engages in partnership with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kansas to manage the Wilhelmina Gill Multi-Service Center.

MCRC is designated as a Community-Based Housing Development Organization, CHDO. As such, MCRC is committed to maintaining accountability to low-income community residents by; Reserving at least one-third of its governing board’s membership for residents of low to moderate-income neighborhoods.
